Piemonte, Nicole
Abreu, Shawn
This book reflects, from an interdisciplinary position in which ethics, sociology and biosanitary studies converge, about the treatment of death, agony and incurable diseases in contemporary society. Based on their experiences as researchers, professionals and users of the American health system, the authors review death and agony from different angles, among which the attention given to these phenomena in medical institutions and thanatological, from large hospitals to funeral homes, through palliative care clinics, local medical centers or funeral service companies, among others. For the rest, the essay intends to draw attention to the academic and general neglect that affects these issues, even though they are crucial both for the lives of individuals and for our society as a whole.
