La mujer del Coronel
Liksom, Rosa
A Finnish woman, already in her old age, tells us the story of her life. How she fell in love in her youth with a friend of her father's, a Colonel who was sympathetic to Nazism, how she became trapped in a violent and destructive marriage while Europe was preparing for war, and how she managed to survive that journey through hell. Rosa Liksom has received the Finland Prize and the Nordic Prize from the Swedish Academy. Her parents were reindeer herders and in her youth she lived in various European communes. In addition to being a writer, she is a painter and filmmaker. Her novels have been translated into nineteen languages. In this novel, her precise and incisive prose explores the history of Finland in the 20th century through the eyes of an old woman, transporting us to the swamps and tundra of the north of the country, but also to the abysmal depths of humanity. "The Colonel's Wife" is a study in evil and the ability to adapt, a story of submission and fascist instincts, and a song of love for nature.
