La secreta de Franco

la Brigada Político Social durante la dictadura

Alcántara, Pablo

After the brutal coup d'état of 1936, Franco's repression launched all the mechanisms at its disposal for the construction of a "New State". Among them, he highlighted the creation of the Political-Social Brigade (BPS), or Political Police, which, in the words of the writer Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, was the "true Praetorian Guard" of the dictatorship. Pablo Alcántara, in a rigorous and exhaustive research work, demonstrates the evidence of those words from the study and compilation of unpublished information from the personal files of his main agents, from his investigative bulletins, from the documentation of the military courts and civilians, as well as various interviews. In this work, the first to deal with the history of this institution in all its dimensions, its relations with the Gestapo, the CIA and the FBI, or its torture techniques against anti-Francoist militants, are also revealed. And it analyzes what became of the BPS agents after the dictator's death, when, overnight, they became "democratic" police officers, without being judged for their actions during the years of the dictatorship.
