One day, a thief hid a sack full of sweets in a hole in the trunk of a tree thinking that he would retrieve it again when he was not being chased. But the next day there was a great storm, and lightning split the tree in two. When Peret and his father, who had gone out to collect wood, saw that big log on the ground, they took it home to make a good fire. Little did they suspect that they were about to burn a treasure!
