La veritat sobre la llum
Ólafsdóttir, Audur Ava
In this family the trade is passed down from generation to generation: they are midwives. The youngest's life passes between Reykjavík Hospital, where she has attended nearly two thousand births, and the apartment left to her by an aunt-grandmother. A hurricane is approaching for Christmas, the time of year when the day lasts six hours. The house becomes a strategic place, the papers that the aunt-grandmother kept in the closets become companions of coexistence. They talk about midwives going through snowstorms to welcome newborns, whales helping each other in labor, the superiority of sheep over humans, the great journey from darkness to light. Meanwhile, upstairs, an Australian tourist captivated by the northern lights ignores the impending threat.
