Harry Bosch is working open cases for the San Fernando Police Department when the presence of all troops is required at a local pharmacy, where two men have been killed in a robbery. The clues lead to the dangerous and lucrative world of drug abuse. To reach those who run the show, Bosch must risk it all and infiltrate the dark web of the illegal pill trade. Meanwhile, an old case from his days with the LAPD returns to haunt him. A murderer who has been incarcerated for many years claims that Bosch prepared a montage against him and seems to have new evidence to prove it. Bosch left the department the hard way, so his former colleagues are unwilling to protect his reputation. If that conviction is overturned, all the cases Bosch has worked on will be called into question. As usual, Bosch must defend himself as he tries to clear his name and keep a cunning killer in prison. As the two cases intertwine like barbed wire, Bosch discovers that there are two sides to the truth: the one that sets you free and the one that buries you in darkness.
