Las once mil vergas
o, Los amores de un hospodar
Apollinaire, Guillaume
The eleven thousand vergas tells the story of Mony Vibescu, a Romanian host who embarks to Paris in search of adventure, where he meets Culculine d'Ancone, a prostitute with whom he will be immersed in numerous and gruesome sexual adventures through from that moment. After his return to Bucharest, the protagonist is invited to participate in the Russo-Japanese War as a Russian lieutenant, which he accepts motivated by the "perversions" that a war is capable of providing and covering up. Indeed, the setting is perfect for the most depraved scenes to unfold between the chaos and violence of a conflict.
