Laura y Julio

Laura y Julio

Millás, Juan José

Laura and Julio receive a phone call that alters their world: a car has just run over Manuel, their neighbor, who is dying badly injured in a hospital. They form one of those couples submerged in a daily life that no one questions; the years have molded them so uniformly that perhaps, more than a couple, they seem like brothers. Or maybe not. Perhaps Manuel's arrival at that floor next to and symmetrical to his opened a rift between them, a great void that is already difficult to bridge. For this reason, when the marriage fails after Manuel's misfortune, Julio clandestinely settles in the now uninhabited apartment of his neighbor, and there little by little he makes his own a reality that does not belong to him. Perhaps what is happening is that he is starting to stop looking like Laura to be confused with Manuel. In that place so similar to his own home and at the same time so different, he feels little by little that he has gone through a mirror to inhabit the other side, a new life from which he can observe his own (his ex-life) and that of his wife. (his ex-wife), and in both he discovers things he never suspected. Which of the two existences is more real? The one from which he has been expelled or the one in which he has installed himself as an impostor?
