Lo danzante
Buriel, Manuela
Protests and street dances fill the Barcelona Parallel with light. With its foundation, more than a century ago, this solar road became a refuge for those who were forced to live on the fringes: libertarians, vedets, transsexuals, hedonists, and other working classes; as Luz Adorada, the revered cabaret, magician and insurrectionist; the transvestite Mañana and her irreverent processions of virgins in papier-mâché, or the legendary Anarcoma. Among all of them, the eyes of a couple of eternal lovers bear witness to the events that have taken place on the avenue through the decades, from when it was nothing more than a dirt and mud path to the utopian homeland of the dancing tribe, already in 2039. The narrative of Lo Danzante becomes a poetic river, a hallucinatory and moving fable of what we were censored about the struggles and pleasures of past generations and those that will succeed us. A magical journey where the strikers of La Canadenca meet, the dissident sexualities in La Criolla or La Casa de la Pradera, the rise and fall of the music hall, or the revolutionary covens of Tragic Week.
