Malasanta

XLI Premio de Novela Felipe Trigo

Tocornal, Antonio

Malasanta was born and raised in Doña Expiración's brothel, in the rural municipality of La Ciénaga, where her mother, Dámasa la Tuerta, works and where she waits until she is old enough to follow in her footsteps; the one that presents itself as his only alternative. After more than half his life practicing, he manages to flee from the lupanar and reach the city where little by little his decline will culminate. The novel offers six snapshots of Malasanta's life, at the ages of 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 and 55 years, since the prostitute is a woman and there are six of them, and each one of them is the consequence of the previous ones. Antonio Tocornal has written a disturbing and hyper-realistic portrait of the most sordid face of the human being, narrated without filters or self-censorship, which starkly deals with some realities that are uncomfortable but exist in our society and that affect the great forgotten: prostitution as slavery , the sexuality of people with physical or mental disabilities, transphobia, the loneliness of the elderly and the vulnerability of the homeless.
