Myers, Benjamin
At sixteen, and before going to work in the mine, like his father, Robert Appleyard decides to travel through the region and, bundled on his shoulder, leaves Durham behind. The Second World War has just ended and the depression is still felt in the English countryside. On his trip, he happens to stop at the beautiful house on the top of a hillside, with wonderful views of the sea, where a woman lives in her fifties. Eccentric, independent, lover of good literature (and good food), Dulcie Piper has seen a lot of the world. The friendship that they will form during a single summer will last a lifetime, and will open up unexpected paths for Robert.
