Atomic sulfate, Valor and... to the bull! and Chapeau el "esmirriau" meant a before and after in Ibáñez's work and in national comics. With El sulfato atomic (1969), the first long comic strip by Mortadelo and Filemón, he not only elevated his characters to a new era and autonomy: the detail of the drawing, the quality of the backgrounds and the linear adventure structure proclaimed Ibáñez as a cartoonist at the level of the great European cartoonists. Of course, without leaving behind his recognizable humor and overflowing imagination, gag by gag. Courage and... to the bull! and Chapeau el "esmirriau" sentenced these qualities and Mortadelo and Filemón, the most popular characters in Spanish comics, would fill thousands of pages and be part of the collective imagination of an entire country forever. The book offers a prologue and explanatory content by Manuel Bartual of each of the comics that, although they are so well known, will enrich them and highlight the figure of Ibáñez and his work.
