Mostras del Rock

Mostras del Rock

Recanati, Barbi
Powerpaola (il.)

My name is Barbi and I am a singer. A few years ago I was approached to do a podcast about women in rock. My original idea was to talk about my musical DNA: Patti Smith, Debbie Harry, Siouxsie, Kathleen Hanna. But reading them I discovered other artists, and from those artists I learned about others. Fundamental stories for the existence of all the songs that shaped me. The first recorded blues, the first rock and roll songs, the inclusion of synthesizers in popular music, the first steps in self-management, protest songs, the emancipation of women, the fight for abortion, for rights LGBTIQ+, all in the hands of women, lesbians, trans artists that I didn't know or barely knew. If I knew so much about rock and so little about them, did I really know anything about rock? Part of my DNA was stolen, and I swore revenge. My revenge is to divulge every story of every show I discover. Just as they inserted into my unconscious that history of heteronormative and patriarchal rock through t-shirts, video clips, movies, magazines, posters, stickers and songs on the radio, I will tell these stories. That is why Powerpaola was the master plan. This book has 48 stories that you should know URGENTLY, with drawings, comics and even handwritten by herself. Because I need these stories to stay in your head forever, and to change your musical DNA like they changed mine.
