No desearás la muerte en Venecia
Clavería, Carlos
The two novels that make up this two-headed work tell the life, first, of Tadeusz von Stadion, a decorated ex-general of the German army active in both world wars, and, later, of Tadeusz Latalski, a Polish proletarian, communist and bohemian partisan persecuted by the Nazis in Italy; two projections of the same person, the beautiful Tazio from Death in Venice, a privileged witness to the end of an era embodied in the desiring and languishing gaze of the writer Gustav von Aschenbach. For the two Tadeusz, distant and different from each other but inexorably united like the sides of a coin, fate brings surprises and unexpected coincidences. You will not wish death in Venice, a game of mirrors and a tribute to Thomas Mann's masterpiece, intertwines two lives that, like two lenses, serve to examine the most sensitive fibers of the 20th century; two paths marked by war and traced by the irreversible decisions of each one, which condition -or torment- an existence sustained by the pillars of duty, responsibility and regret.
