Nueva historia del flamenco

Nueva historia del flamenco

Vergillos Gómez, Juan

This work is essential due to the enormous amount of new data it offers for the understanding of cante, toque and jondo dance in their historical context. But also because of the novelty of its approach: it shows that flamenco is an evolution of the national songs and dances and of drumsticks of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He also contributes the completely new hypothesis that bolero dances and what is now called the Bolera School are different genres, both chronologically and in repertoire and aesthetics. It shows flamenco events in their aesthetic, social and political environment and, for the first time, the keys to an understanding of Spanish dance as a single genre are given: flamenco dances, in their scenic dimension, are presented as an evolution of the traditional Hispanic dances, resolving, in this way, the schism that for decades reigned in the history of Spanish dance.
