Pequeños placeres

Chambers, Clare

1957, on the outskirts of London. Jean Swinney is an editor of chronicles and reports in a local newspaper, she is disappointed in love and, about to turn forty, she leads a limited life with her moody and demanding mother. When a young Swiss woman, Gretchen Tilbury, contacts the newspaper claiming that her daughter is the fruit of a virgin conception, it is up to Jean to find out if it is a miracle or a fraud. However, the more she digs into the subject, the more her existence becomes intertwined (in a strange, though not unpleasant way) with the lives of the Tilburys: Gretchen herself, her husband Howard, and the lovely daughter from her Margaret. However, they are the center of the events that Jean is investigating for the newspaper; a story that seems to spread more and more dark vibes in their lives. And even so, Jean does not dare to rule out the possibility of finally tasting the honey of happiness. But there will be a price to pay, and it will be unbearable.
