Poesia bucòlica grega

Poesia bucòlica grega

(Teòcrit, Moscos, Bió, poemes figuratius)

Pòrtulas, Jaume (ed.)

Theocritus of Syracuse (3rd century BC) is considered the initiator of the bucolic or pastoral genre. His Idylls -the title by which his most notable poems are known, but which he never used- recreate and transform in a splendid way the rich poetic traditions that preceded him, and constitute the most exquisite and elaborate collection of Hellenistic literature. The influence of these poems in European literature has been immense, starting with the Virgilian Bucolics and passing through Tasso's Aminta, Urfé's L'Astrée d'Honoré, Cervantes's La Galatea or Pope's Pastoral. This volume presents, for the first time in Catalan, not only all the preserved work of Theocritus, but also that of his epigones Moscos de Siracusa and Bió d'Esmirna, as well as the surprising figurative poems - distant forerunners of the caligrams- which are usually included in the Greek bucolic corpus.
