Vallejo, César

César Vallejo is, without a doubt, one of the most important poets in Spanish of all time. His work, of great influence on later literature, blew Western poetry to pieces and, even today, remains "rabidly contemporary" (La Vanguardia). Although he started from modernism, he soon moved towards the search for new expressive possibilities. With Trilce -"the most radical of the books in the Spanish language" (Julio Ortega)- Vallejo managed to create a new poetic language that placed him as one of the summits of avant-garde poetry on a world scale. His work written in Europe, almost all of it published posthumously -the so-called Human Poems and Spain, take this cup away from me-, does not abandon the need to explore the maximum power of language, which is impregnated more openly with political and historical references, and It constitutes, according to many critics, the best of his production.
