If the subject that gives rise to this novel is apparently trivial, the life that encourages it is not at all. Very few times before, for example, the masculine sex or the desire that idiotizes, that disrupts, had been spoken with such stark impudence. Annie Ernaux's aseptic and naked writing manages to introduce us, with the precision of an entomologist observing an insect, into the feverish, ecstatic and devastating madness that any woman -and any man?-, anywhere in the world, has experienced without doubt at least once in your life.
