¿Qué es el nuevo Sistema Internacional de Unidades de medida?
Campo, Dolores del
Martín-Delgado, Miguel Ángel
We have become accustomed to talking about seconds, meters, kilograms, amps, etc., but what are they? Where are you from? Have they always been like this? Will they change in the future? These and other fundamental questions about the basic units of measurement are treated in this work. Its purpose is to serve as an introduction to the new International System of Measurement Units (SI) with a clear pedagogical vocation. Its purpose is to facilitate the understanding and use of units of measurement for readers without great technical knowledge who are looking for a first reference on this exciting topic. The new SI entered into force on May 20, 2019, coinciding with the World Metrology Day that is celebrated every year to commemorate the signing of the Meter Convention on May 20, 1875 by representatives of seventeen nations, including Spain (currently, there are 63 Member States and 38 associates). It is considered a great historical achievement and represents the culmination of long years of joint work between the national metrology centers of the member states of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM, Bureau International des Poids et Mesures), providing a magnificent example of International cooperation. With the new system, all the basic units of measurement are linked to physical constants such as the speed of light, the Planck, Boltzmann, Avogadro constants, the charge of the electron, etc., instead of arbitrary references to artifacts. materials.
