Quirke a Sant Sebastià

San Sebastián, sixties. Quirke and his wife Evelyn spend their holidays in one of the most emblematic hotels on La Concha beach. It is spring and it rains on the green hills by the sea. An Atlantic landscape and atmosphere, vaguely Irish, which the couple observes with irony but also with perplexity. In parallel, a criminal plot unfolds in London that reveals dark interests related to hidden powers in Ireland and Quirke's family history. In this novel, Benjamin Black and John Banville join hands in a masterful narrative exercise. Banville's quiet prose accompanies us to deepen our knowledge of the characters, especially Phoebe, Quirke's daughter. And at the same time, Black's precision leads us to an impressive ending, resolved in an unexpected twist that reminds us, once again, of one of the author's great themes: the force of chance and fortune.
