Ravals
Morera Escarré, Montserrat
There are so many suburbs of the Raval... This is how Mar Church - formerly Mar Coll i Borràs - sees it when she returns to Barcelona after half her life in London. Paul, her husband, is recovering from an illness and they want to sell the family flat on Hospital Street to buy a house in England. As he walks through the neighborhood, he evokes the family past: the civil war and repression, his youth and democratic claims, first loves, university, work as a clerk in London, marriage... But at the same time he is reunited with friends and meet new people who change their view of the city. Set in a long period of time, culminating in the attacks of 2017, Ravals confronts the urban and social transformations of this neighborhood, but, above all, provides an honest vision of the people who inhabit it and will inhabit it , without false nostalgia or future naiveties.
