Retratos con Federico
Téllez-Pon, Sergio
In Portraits with Federico, we approach the friendships that Lorca cultivated: in the world of literature, art, theater or politics, woven during his trips to the other side of the Atlantic. Marked by sincerity and loyalty, they started from that genuine interest in the other so typical of the author: Antonieta Rivas Mercado, a key figure in the cultural world of post-revolutionary Mexico; Salvador Novo, writer linked to Los contemporaries; the artist Amelio Amero; the poets Porfirio Barba Jacob or Pablo Neruda, among others; Absences will also play a leading role, passing through Hart Crane, Walt Whitman or Margarita Xirgu and that trip that never was. Sergio Téllez-Pon accompanies us in an affective cartography that shapes the cultural world of Lorca. A biography of friends, intellectual synergies, love affairs and absences, which also offers an image of how cultural relations between America and Spain were woven at the beginning of the 20th century: literary magazines, artistic circles and their reciprocal influences. Thus, the keys that allow us to draw a complete and vivid portrait of Lorca are revealed: the trips he undertakes, his love affairs, his romances, his tragedies, as if it were a colorful photographic album, demonstrating that his stay in the American continent was not only productive in the literary field, but also, and deeply, in the intimate and personal.
