On her home island on an emerald green ocean, the only life Trenza knows is a simple one, marked by the pleasure of collecting the cups brought back by sailors from distant lands and listening to the stories her friend Charlie tells her. But when Charlie's father takes him away on a boat to find him a wife and catastrophe strikes, Charlie's Braid must stow away on a ship and set out in search of the sorceress who lives in the deadly Midnight Sea.
