Variaciones para un saxo
Rodríguez Almodóvar, Antonio
A jazz saxophonist, who earns his living in a company with dubious international capital, stars in this generational novel in Spain in the sixties. Three love stories, with very different tones, are intertwined with the most relevant events of the end of the dictatorship. These are moments of great student agitation, whose demonstrations against the brutality of Francoism become the Spanish version of the protest movements that took place in the rest of Europe and America. In short, the preparation of democracy, in extremely difficult circumstances. All this, together with a peculiar narrative structure and the determined style of Variaciones para un saxo, result in a novel of extraordinary literary quality.
