Lasdun, James
These are two short novels of great psychological significance. Lasdun is considered the Chekhov of the 21st century. The topics are very topical: sexual exploitation and betrayal. Written with great intelligence, they deal with love and sex in our age. Warns of the dangers of the MeToo movement. In this era in which the end of male prerogratives is being lived, it exquisitely represents the moral ambiguity and the fascination of some men for the achievements of other men. Lasdun deals with rugged subjects with very powerful and delicate images and uses dialogue with great skill. In A Faun's Nap, the English journalist Marco Rosedale is accused by another fellow journalist of a rape that occurred more than twenty years ago. His reputation and his life are on the brink of ruin. Marco tells a close friend how the accusation unfolds and his version of events, and this friend is caught between the obligations of friendship and the desire to discover the truth. He ends up possessed by the world of accusation and cannot help feeling an accomplice in everything that happens. In Feathered Glory, the seemingly happy marriage between a school principal and an artist who has given up on her career for her marriage is shattered by the emergence of an old love for her husband. The woman, fascinated by a charismatic wild animal rehabilitator, takes an injured swan home. The outcome forces the transformation of all the characters.
