In 1619, Diego Velázquez is an emerging painter at his father-in-law's Sevillian academy, but what he wants is to paint larger canvases. His dreams and ambitions will soon take him to the court of Philip IV, where he will establish himself socially and economically. Meanwhile, the country is immersed in military defeats and political chaos and, as it establishes itself, the painter becomes more aware of the scandalous Spanish decadence. Torn between family duty and the easy seductions of power, Velázquez decides to risk painting something that could lead him directly to the clutches of the Inquisition: a naked Venus, looking in the mirror.
