This volume is the result of an international workshop held at the German Archaeological Institute in Madrid in 2018. The workshop brought together historians, archaeologists, and epigraphists, asking them to reflect on the causal factors behind the various phenomena that constitute the Urban Boom in each of these regions. The chapters offered here constitute a significant contribution to the study of ancient urbanism, identifying some of the key elements that triggered urban development in the Roman empire.

Este volumen es el resultado de un taller internacional celebrado en el Instituto Arqueológico Alemán de Madrid en 2018. El taller reunió a historiadores, arqueólogos y epigrafistas, pidiéndoles que reflexionaran sobre los factores causales detrás de los diversos fenómenos que constituyen el Auge Urbano en cada una de estas regiones. Los capítulos que aquí se ofrecen constituyen una contribución significativa al estudio del urbanismo antiguo, identificando algunos de los elementos clave que desencadenaron el desarrollo urbano en el imperio romano.
