Diachronic analysis of Jurodstvo (holy foolery) as a Russian sociocultural phenomenon: The study analyzes the diverse manifestations of jurodstvo through centuries, from its early Russian origins in the first Christian communities among Eastern Slavs through the apex of the phenomenon after the rule of Ivan the Terrible and its modern reconstructions in diverse contexts, such as the last decades of Imperial Russia, the Communist period and the current Russian diaspora. Recent manifestation are contextualized as part of a mayor process of religious restitution in Russia and legitimacy through memory reconstruction in Russia and in Russian communities abroad, where jurodstvo plays a symbolic key role.
