Ibn Juljul’s work, completed in the year 987 CE in Córdoba, is essentially a collection of biographical essays on ancient and medieval physicians, scientists and philosophers, interspersed with numerous anecdotes and containing a highly instructive, relatively long section on ‘Andalusian sages’. The work represents a most crucial source for our understanding of the evolution and the development of medicine and philosophy in Muslim Spain, drawing also on a number of otherwise unattested Latin-into-Arabic translations, and abounding moreover in burlesque literary embellishments.

La obra de Ibn Juljul, terminada en el año 987 d.C. en Córdoba, es esencialmente una colección de ensayos biográficos sobre médicos, científicos y filósofos antiguos y medievales, intercalada con numerosas anécdotas y que contiene una sección muy instructiva y relativamente larga sobre los "sabios andalusíes". La obra constituye una fuente esencial para comprender la evolución y el desarrollo de la medicina y la filosofía en la España musulmana, ya que se basa en una serie de traducciones del latín al árabe que hasta ahora no se conocían y que, además, abundan en adornos literarios burlescos.
