Con ocasión de la polémica feminista que tuvo lugar en las primeras décadas del siglo XX, la periodista madrileña Margarita Nelken (1894-1968) preconizó la reforma de aquellas normas jurídicas y usos sociales que, por su cariz androcéntrico, discriminaban a la mujer española. En aras de mejorar la condición femenina y, por ende, de equilibrar las relaciones de poder entre ambos sexos, promovió la formación intelectual y laboral de la mujer, su incorporación al mercado de trabajo, su independencia económica y su emancipación moral y política respecto al varón. A pesar de tal bagaje, tras ser elegida diputada en 1931, apenas proyectó su actividad política en la salvaguardia de los intereses feministas, a los que antepuso otra clase de objetivos, como la revolución social según el modelo comunista y la defensa de la República durante la Guerra Civil.

On the occasion of the feminist polemic that took place in the first decades of the twentieth century, the Madrilenian journalist, Margarita Nelken (1894-1968), advocated the reform of those judicial norms and social uses that, for their androcentric perspective, discriminated against Spanish women. In order to improve the feminine condition and, hence, to balance the relations of power between both sexes, she promoted the intellectual and technical formation of women, their incorporation into the work market, their economic independence and their moral and political emancipation with respect to the male. Despite having such a large amount of acquired knowledge, after being elected a Member of Parliament in 1931, she hardly projected her political activity in the safeguard of feminist interests, giving precedence to other classes of objectives, such as the social revolution acording to the comunist model and the defence of the Republic during the Civil War.
