This volume is dedicated to the material culture of Babylonia and its neighbouring regions as documented in cuneiform texts. It presents the results of research conducted in the framework of the Franco-Austrian collaborative project ANR-FWF Material Culture of Babylonia during the 1st millennium BC (MCB). The case studies presented here cover different aspects of the material environments in palatial, temple, and private contexts and consider material culture in a broad sense, concentrating not only on the physical nature of manufactured objects but also on the status of their makers, on their working conditions and technologies, and the contexts of production and consumption. They thus propose an approach to socio-economic history which focuses on the concrete and visible aspects of ancient society.

Este volumen está dedicado a la cultura material de Babilonia y sus regiones vecinas, documentada en textos cuneiformes. Presenta los resultados de las investigaciones realizadas en el marco del proyecto de colaboración franco-austriaco ANR-FWF Material Culture of Babylonia during the 1st millennium BC (MCB). Los estudios de caso que aquí se presentan abarcan diferentes aspectos de los entornos materiales en contextos palaciegos, de templos y privados, y consideran la cultura material en un sentido amplio, concentrándose no sólo en la naturaleza física de los objetos manufacturados, sino también en el estatus de sus fabricantes, en sus condiciones de trabajo y tecnologías, y en los contextos de producción y consumo. Proponen así un enfoque de la historia socioeconómica centrado en los aspectos concretos y visibles de la sociedad antigua.
