This book presents an original perspective on the variety and intensity of biblical narrative and rhetoric in the evolution of history writing in León-Castile during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. It focuses on six Hispano-Latin chronicles, two of which make unusually overt and emphatic use of biblical texts. Of particular importance is the part played by the influence of exegesis that became integral to scriptural and liturgical influence, both in and beyond monastic institutions.

Este libro presenta una perspectiva original sobre la variedad e intensidad de la narrativa y retórica bíblicas en la evolución de la escritura histórica en León-Castilla durante los siglos XII y XIII. Se centra en seis crónicas hispanolatinas, dos de las cuales hacen un uso inusualmente abierto y enfático de los textos bíblicos. De particular importancia es el papel desempeñado por la influencia de la exégesis que se convirtió en parte integrante de la influencia escrituraria y litúrgica, tanto dentro como fuera de las instituciones monásticas.
