António Botto Quintans vem dar a sua interpretação e o porquê da Batalha de Ourique ter ocorrido no Baixo Alentejo, em 25 de Julho de 1139.
D. Afonso Henriques, depois da Batalha de Ourique, mandou acrescentar ao escudo do Condado Portucalense cinco escudos em forma de cruz – os cinco reis mouros vencidos e as cinco chagas de Cristo.
Se o Milagre de Ourique é um mito, então a bandeira de Portugal também o é. Quase nove séculos se passaram e o escudo de Ourique continua a ser o símbolo maior da bandeira nacional.
