Tradition and Allusion in the Love Elegies and Beyond

This book investigates the complex reception of Terence in Ovid and a number of allusions to the Terentian comedies in the love elegies and the exilic elegiac epistle Tristia 2. The genres of Latin love elegy and New Comedy are often seen as closely connected in research, and one leading view is that Latin love elegy to a large degree springs out of the comic genre. However, though both genres are strongly rooted in social practise and presents interpersonal relationships in a non-mythological, everyday setting, there are also major differences between them.

Este libro investiga la compleja recepción de Terencio en Ovidio y una serie de alusiones a las comedias terencianas en las elegías amorosas y en la epístola elegíaca exílica Tristia 2. Los géneros de la elegía amorosa latina y de la comedia nueva se consideran a menudo estrechamente relacionados en la investigación, y una de las principales opiniones es que la elegía amorosa latina surge en gran medida del género cómico. Sin embargo, aunque ambos géneros están fuertemente arraigados en la práctica social y presentan las relaciones interpersonales en un marco no mitológico y cotidiano, también existen importantes diferencias entre ellos.
