Towards a better integration of "rock art" and "graffiti" studies in Egypt and Sudan

This book presents proceedings of the conference devoted to rock art and graffiti studies in Egypt and Sudan that took place in Cairo from 10th to 12th November, 2019. The thematic spectrum of the contributions is very wide in terms of both their geographical and their chronological range, encompassing figural and textual sources dating from the Late Palaeolithic through the Predynastic, Dynastic, and Graeco-Roman periods, up to Christian and Islamic times. Many of the papers combine evidence from various archaeological domains and also attempt to better integrate graffiti and rock art materials in search of a common ground for research. Thus, the volume provides a good overview of the current state of investigations in these two fields of study in Egypt and Nubia.

Este libro presenta las actas de la conferencia dedicada a los estudios sobre arte rupestre y graffiti en Egipto y Sudán que tuvo lugar en El Cairo del 10 al 12 de noviembre de 2019. El espectro temático de las contribuciones es muy amplio tanto en términos de su alcance geográfico como cronológico, abarcando fuentes figurativas y textuales que datan del Paleolítico tardío a través de los períodos predinástico, dinástico y grecorromano, hasta la época cristiana e islámica. Muchos de los trabajos combinan pruebas procedentes de diversos ámbitos arqueológicos y también intentan integrar mejor los grafitos y los materiales de arte rupestre en busca de una base común para la investigación. Así pues, el volumen ofrece una buena panorámica del estado actual de las investigaciones en estos dos campos de estudio en Egipto y Nubia.
