Portugal está a punto de celebrar el 50 aniversario de la Revolución de los Claveles. Uno de los principales objetivos del libro es analizar la revolución no sólo desde el punto de vista de la posición global de Portugal en aquel momento, especialmente de su colonialismo histórico, sino también de lo que pensaban y expresaban todos los protagonistas en el período previo al 25 de abril. Se presta atención al periodo inmediatamente posterior a la revolución y a las opciones nacionales, políticas y militares que se tomaron a medida que se afianzaba este inesperado camino hacia la democracia.
