El muelle de Ouistreham

El muelle de Ouistreham

Aubenas, Florence

In 2007, the crisis broke out. Florence Aubenas, renowned and restless reporter, intends to investigate the reality of those most affected by the situation: the unemployed and precarious workers. For this she moves to a medium-sized city, with the purpose of getting a job. She introduces herself as a recently separated forty-eight-year-old woman with no work experience. She rents a tiny furnished room and begins a new existence, which is forced to end the day she manages to sign a contract. She visits the public employment service and the temporary work agencies: the first offers her a training course for the cleaning sector, where she will work for hours for a ridiculous salary, below the minimum wage. And so she will discover that public officials are no longer social workers, but «commercials» for whom the unemployed are clients, and that they make up the unemployment figures to meet the required results.
