Os anos do silencio

With "The years of silence. Repression and resistance in the province of Pontevedra (1936-1951)", Xosé Álvarez Castro completes the research of "Pontevedra in the years of fear. Military coup and repression (1936-1939)", also published by Xerais in 2013. In this new work, he extends the studied territory to the whole province and the temporal space until the early 1950s. The book analyzes the characteristics and modulations adopted by repression and resistance in the so-called "first Franco regime". The repression used against the political opposition, the economic repression, the one suffered by women and the one carried out against Freemasonry have a special treatment. On the other hand, it delves into the forms, composition and actions of the resistance against the Regime, both through clandestine political organizations and the various guerrilla groups, as well as the strategies used by the Francoist authorities to combat them. Adopting a critical and rigorous treatment of the various documentary sources that the author uses, the book presents a didactic and informative approach.
