Punto en boca

(esto no es un manual de lenguaje inclusivo)

Martín Barranco, María

This book is for thinking about how you talk. So that you wonder why you choose some words and not others. So that you can find alternatives that allow you to say exactly what you want without discriminating against women, minority groups, people with disabilities, anyone. With humility and irreverence, María Martín offers us a critical and fun journey through inclusive language that brings together a bit of the history of our language and, above all, many tricks and practical advice that are not always easily found. In this tour we will see that some dogmas such as "the generic masculine" and "the economy of language" have not always been there. Also -and contrary to what is thought- we will discover that inclusive language not only allows us to be precise, but also to economize, if it is about saving words. We will see examples (disastrous and also laudable attempts) drawn from literature, the media, social networks, advertising campaigns, legal texts, and their "translation" into an inclusive language. After this reading, we will have finally banished the hackneyed idea that expressing ourselves in an inclusive way consists of using splits and triplets, of splashing our texts with X's and at signs, of repeating, of "uglying" our speech, of being boring. Reconfiguring our androcentric vision and expression of the world is a creative process with which we can learn and, incidentally, have a lot of fun.
