So far, scholarship has classified the speculation crises of the eighteenth century as having had no real economic consequences. This study aims to review this theory by looking at seven speculation crises. It concludes that these crises did not just have all of the central characteristics of modern speculation crises but also became global in scope with considerable economic and social consequences.

Hasta ahora, la doctrina ha considerado que las crisis especulativas del siglo XVIII no tuvieron consecuencias económicas reales. El presente estudio pretende revisar esta teoría analizando siete crisis especulativas. Llega a la conclusión de que estas crisis no sólo tenían todas las características centrales de las crisis especulativas modernas, sino que también llegaron a tener un alcance mundial con considerables consecuencias económicas y sociales.
